This individual will serve both as the President and CEO of the MSU Foundation and as the Vice President of University Advancement at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He/she will report directly to both the Chair of the MSU Foundation Board and to the President of Metropolitan State University of Denver and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Duties/Responsibilities

As the President and CEO of the Foundation, this position will have a direct working relationship with the Foundation Board of Directors, by providing assistance, expertise and administrative support to the Board and volunteers and assists in the coordination of Board activities. Key to this effort is the development and implementation of a comprehensive fund raising program that works in collaboration with the President of MSU Denver and the University’s strategic plan.

The Vice President University Advancement will provide leadership in the planning and directing of all philanthropic initiatives for the University, including major and annual gifts, corporate, foundation, private endowment development, grants, as well as in the administration of alumni programs and operations. Furthermore, the VP will counsel the President and work with other University executive officers in a team capacity to develop and implement institutional advancement strategies in accordance with the University’s strategic plan.

Specific examples of work expected includes:
•Proven leadership, management, and persuasive oral and written communication skills.
•Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles, practices and capital campaigns.
•Ability to balance fund-raising, program and project demands with operational responsibilities.
•Will assume the role of an impact player in the fund-raising arena by personally expanding fund- raising networks.
•Understanding of higher education.
•Fulfills the contractual obligations of the Foundation and University Advancement
•Assures sound management of the Advancement/Foundation’s fiscal affairs including the preparation of 
budgets for approval by the Board of Directors, overseeing the accounting functions to insure accounting standards and policies are followed and monitoring of the investment portfolio activities and results.
•Communicates administrative activities to the Chairperson of the Foundation Board, oversees 
committee activities and administers the Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and Policies and 
Procedures adopted by the Board of Directors.
•Participates in the planning process and provides leadership and direction to the Board as it relates to organizational advancement.
•Oversees the committee structure of the Board of Directors and serves as a member of all Board 
committees.
•Represents and promotes the Foundation and the University in the community, state and region 
and travels to facilitate the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts.
•High level of personal and professional integrity.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Proven leadership, management, and persuasive oral and written communication skills. Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles, practices and capital campaigns. Ability to balance fund-raising, program and project demands with operational responsibilities. Will assume the role of an impact player in the fund-raising arena by personally expanding fund- raising networks. Understanding of higher education.
Requires ten years of development officer experience, with demonstrated success in the areas of capital campaigns, major donor development, and with proven experience in cultivating, soliciting and closing six-figure and higher gifts. The successful candidate must possess exceptional relationship building and influencing skills, especially as it relates to working with members of the MSU Denver Foundation Board. Key to the position is understanding the special needs of a multicultural environment. The President and CEO of the MSU Foundation/Vice President for University advancement must have significant knowledge and understanding of the planning, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive development program, as well as outstanding performance in the oversight and administration of the Foundation and its Board of Directors. The President and CEO of the MSU Foundation /Vice President for University Advancement will exhibit qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, common sense, judgment, fairness, creativity, discretion, decisiveness, political savvy, diplomacy, tact, resiliency, adaptability, courage of convictions and tolerance for ambiguity.

Master’s degree.
