Detailed Job Description

The Department of Film, Video and Interactive Media at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a full-time renewable term contract, or tenure-track position, to teach undergraduate script writing and media production courses in a student-centered environment, beginning August 2014.  Appointment and rank will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s professional and academic qualifications.

The School of Communications' Film, Video and Interactive Media program offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs on the undergraduate level and a Master of Science program in Interactive Media on the graduate level. The Department offers specialized programs that educate students in contemporary media practice and demands they excel as technically accomplished, aesthetically grounded and expressively mature professionals. These programs are dedicated to skilled storytelling and the creation of documentary and narrative works in visual and audio media as well as other informative and entertaining programming for delivery on film, television, DVD, the Internet, mobile devices and all emerging media platforms. The department’s mission is to provide a comprehensive education in a liberal arts setting wherein students prepare to become media leaders, producers, directors, writers and managers for national and global organizations and companies.

The School of Communications emphasizes a commitment to academic excellence, diversity, inclusiveness and shared governance and embraces the teacher/scholar model of higher education. The School has approximately 1,000 undergraduate students in journalism, public relations, media studies, and film, video and interactive media. The School offers graduate programs in journalism, public relations and interactive media.


The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate curriculum including but not limited to Script Writing, Analysis of The Moving Image, Writing and Producing Media, Senior Projects in Script Writing and Film and Television History.

For a tenure-track appointment additional responsibilities include developing and/or maintaining an active research and/or creative agenda leading to scholarly publication or creative professional recognition; and participating in service to the department, school, and university.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

Master’s level degree or higher in communications, media, or related field, as well as demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate students in script writing and media production.

Professional experience in script writing and film and television production is highly desirable. Advanced professional experience in script writing and film and television production will be considered in lieu of college level teaching experience.

To be considered for a tenure track position the candidate must have an M.F.A. or PhD.
