The Strategic Advisor will report directly to the President and the Provost. The Strategic Advisor will work closely with relevant university and academic leadership to define and develop the full nature of a comprehensive academic and programmatic population health innovations initiative. The Strategic Advisor will also involve current university partners and seek to develop new regional and national strategic alliances with health care organizations and businesses that will invest in and benefit from NKU’s healthy population initiatives.
While initial, and very preliminary, planning discussions have occurred internally, NKU remains receptive to outside ideas about how to best proceed in the effective design of its initiative, its various components and its implementation planning. As NKU seeks a creative advisor and partner to help with this initiative, we believe that the key elements of scope and next steps include the following. For all aspects, accountability for monitoring and evaluating progress against the plan must be established and measured.
*Involve key internal and external stakeholders in an iterative process to gain consensus and a clear understanding of program development and define the vision, strategy, and goals for a health innovation center.
*Conduct an industry and global scan of alternative models of healthcare delivery and population health that may inform new/innovative approaches.
*Facilitate visioning sessions with health care leaders on ideas and issues that may bring new thinking and greater clarity to the academic programs and applied research that could be conducted in a health innovations center.
*Verify and validate specific healthcare conditions and emerging needs in the region, existing academic offerings (both at NKU and other institutions in the region and state), cross referencing the two in order to facilitate the University’s efforts to correlate program offerings with current and future needs. Conduct a comprehensive academic program feasibility study for new degree programs and/or certificates.
*Identify and cultivate opportunities for innovation (ex: transdisciplinary approaches to health care problems, big data analytics, healthcare delivery models, behavioral incentives, etc.).
*Determine the timing and sequencing of the major phases of activity associated with the initiative. A phased concept may be appropriate.
*Plan the major milestones to be accomplished and develop work plans to meet these milestones.
*Create a visionary strategic plan for a center that enthusiastically express the opportunity and sets community goals for outcomes both academically and for economic progress.
*Evaluate financial needs to fully implement academic programs and applied research initatives, and lead university and partner teams in the development of a financial plan.
*Identify potential sources of funds, through grants or state/federal agencies, for ongoing academic or facility planning/construction/ operations.
*Establish accountability for monitoring and evaluating progress against the plan.
*Doctorate (preferred)in a health related field.
*Outstanding oral and written communication.
*Project management expertise, both in university and healthcare environments.
*Experience in population health research in a university setting.
*Demonstrated understanding of higher education academic programs and procedures.
*Budget development/leveraging, and financial management experience.
