The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the President and as the Chief Academic Officer has responsibility for fostering and sustaining an academic culture that promotes collaboration, innovation and excellence in teaching and learning, especially among faculty. The Vice President participates in teaching and learning policy and program review and recommends changes focused on student success. This senior level position will provide vision, leadership, and overall administration for all credit and non-credit courses and programs, library services and outreach centers. Critical components of this charge are: ensuring accountability for student learning outcomes, implementing and evolving innovative and relevant programming, developing faculty and instructional staff, and leading in the strategic planning for, implementation of, and continual review of all instructional programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and policy formation for the development and implementation of successful academic programs and services that are responsive to student, service area, and college needs.
  • Oversee the operations of academic affairs and the operations of the campuses located in Humboldt, Jackson, Lexington, and Savannah.
  • Work collaboratively with staff at the Tennessee Board of Regents and administrators at JSCC in coordinating all academic policies, positions, assignments, academic offerings, academic calendars, and in initiating new programs.
  • Provides leadership for divisional deans in assessing and responding to enrollment trends and issues, including implementation of strategies to improve student access, engagement and success
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the agenda as prescribed by the Complete College Act of 2010.
  • Actively participates in community-related organizations/associations
  • Serves as acting President in absence of President
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College

 Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:

  • Earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years full-time teaching experience in a credit curriculum and/or academic leadership experience at a community college is required.
  • Documented evidence of the following:  leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to promote collegiality and build consensus, ability to promote and achieve a visionary set of goals for the college, ability to plan, direct, and evaluate a complex operation, and ability to solicit external funding via grants, gifts, and partnerships.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • An understanding and commitment to the open access policy and philosophy of the comprehensive community college
  • Knowledge of the Tennessee Complete College Act and the principles for which it stands
