Academic Technology plays a critical, strategic role in Bentley's pursuit of its business university mission, as technology is one of the four pillars on which the University bases its unique identity. Successfully leading and supporting research and curricular initiatives requires specialized human and technology resources, guided by a leader who understands faculty, scholarly and applied research, and a deep understanding of efficacious learning technologies, their use in the classroom, and in synchronous and asynchronous online teaching.

The Director of Academic Technology provides strategic direction in the use of technology for curricular and scholarly purposes across the institution. S/he will lead and initiate campus-wide discussions - as well as chair and/or participate in University-wide committees - to ensure the strategic integration of evolving academic technologies, synchronous and asynchronous online learning, and pursuit of research initiatives. The Director will manage the Academic Technology Center (ATC), Classroom Presentation Technologies (CPT), and Online Learning, realizing and leveraging the synergies across these organizations. S/he will work with faculty, academic department chairs, the Library Director, and senior administrators to ensure academic technology and research initiatives are aligned with institutional strategic goals. The Director will manage a staff of 15 professionals, including Instructional Designers, Courseware Developers, Research Consultants, and Online Learning specialists. S/he will be responsible for the research, evaluation, and facilitation of innovative applications of technology, concentrating on curricular innovation, research, pedagogy, and related institutional priorities for faculty and students.  

Additional Description of Duties:

The successful candidate will collaborate with senior administrators and faculty to ensure consistency between research and curricular initiatives, pedagogical goals, and technology tools. S/he will participate in the analysis of appropriate academic and research tools (including qualitative, quantitative, and analytical resources) that best support research and curricular innovation.  

Position Qualifications

Required credentials include a Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Information Technology, or related field. Demonstrated track record of excellence in developing and promoting academic technology and supporting faculty research. The Director must possess significant experience in integrating technology across disciplines, including Business and Arts and Sciences, supporting the development of materials that can be used for on campus as well as online courses, supporting qualitative and quantitative faculty research, and the acquisition and utilization of research and instructional resources. S/he must be a leader, manager, and educator who is able to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, senior administrators, and IT management. Minimum of 10 years of management experience in academic technology.
