Detailed Job Description

Duties and responsibilities:  Reporting to the Director of Health Sciences Programs and the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, the Program Specialist provides complex professional support in areas such as program and grants design and administration for the Rural Residency Program, Rural Health Initiative Program, and the Health Sciences Scholarship Program.  Coordinate and conduct outreach activities to increase recruitment and retention of healthcare providers to underserved areas of the State.  Manage Health Sciences Division’s grants, contracts, finance and budget activities.   Administer the Health Sciences Scholarship Program.   Serve as liaison with Rural Health Initiative Recruitment and Retention Committee and the Rural Health Advisory Panel.  Represent the Commission and Vice Chancellor on various mandated and ad-hoc health related committees.  Prepare draft of annually required Health Sciences and Rural Health Report Card.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:  Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to interpret and analyze data.  Ability to comprehend, interpret and explain complex federal and state policies and regulations.  Ability to use Microsoft Office Products is essential.  

Education and experience:  Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in a related field.  Over two years recent relevant experience is required.

Salary:   Pay Grade 16, entry salary $28,821 annually.
