Detailed Job Description

The Accounting Department in the Woodbury School of Business has one Full-time faculty opening. Applicants should have earned a doctorate in accounting from an AACSB accredited business school. ABDs will be considered, but must be close to completion.
Under the direction of the Department Chair and the Dean of the Woodbury School of Business, the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Accounting will: teach 9 credit hours of accounting courses per semester. Currently the primary area of instructional need is Financial and Managerial accounting. Courses may be undergraduate or graduate level, as assigned.
All ranks will be considered. Good teaching and research skills are required.
The Woodbury School of Business is AACSB accredited and offers undergraduate degrees to 400 accounting majors, with a graduate program that began in Fall 2010. UVU is a comprehensive four-year institution with 33,000 students. The campus is located in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City with access to high-quality cultural events and outstanding outdoor activities.
Screening of applicants will continue until the position is filled.
-Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials (i.e., exams, visual aids, course outlines, syllabi, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
-Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, lectures, field trips, individualized instruction, on-line instruction, and other appropriate instructional methods.
-Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
-Maintains a student-oriented approach to education.
-Recommends students for advancement and graduation.
-Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability and performance.
-Supervises extracurricular activities as assigned.
-Establishes and maintains office hours.
-Assists department chair, faculty, department staff, and advisers in maintaining an effective program.
-Serves on committees and attends faculty and other meetings as assigned.
-Maintain status as academically qualified through regular scholarly activities which include publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at academic conferences, and other scholarly work.
-Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited business school, but ABDs nearing completion will be considered. All ranks will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Graduation from an AACSB accredited business school with a terminal degree, (Ph.D., DBA) in accounting.
-Knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes being taught.
-Knowledge of instructional strategies, techniques and current trends in education.
-Knowledge of student management, motivation and evaluation.
-Knowledge of development and assessment of curriculum.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
-Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
-Ability to apply effectively general principles to specific conditions.
-Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
-Ability to develop and deliver presentations as well as follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
