The Institution:
Cosumnes River College is an open access, student-centered, comprehensive community college that prepares students to realize their educational and career aspirations through exemplary transfer, general, and career education in an academically rigorous and inclusive environment. Cosumnes River College is located in the rapidly growing south Sacramento region. Cosumnes River College is one of four colleges which comprise the Los Rios Community College District. Founded in 1970, the college enjoys a highly diverse student body with 14,500 students, and over 600 members of the faculty, staff, and administration on its main campus and at its educational center in the City of Elk Grove. Over sixty percent of these students come from historically underrepresented communities, with a substantial English Language Learner (ELL) population and first-generation college attendees.

Distance Education is an increasingly important part of the Cosumnes River College instructional delivery system. Students learn by accessing a variety of delivery systems, including live interactive television classes, online instruction, and hybrid classes.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction and Student Learning and in close cooperation with the Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management and the Vice President of Administrative Services and Student Support, the Dean of Humanities and Social Science facilitates and promotes effective student learning in the Humanities and Social Science area through the use of technology, alternative learning environments, integrated curriculum, and distance learning; supports in the Humanities and Social Science area a climate which promotes collegiality, innovation and improved service to students; cooperates with area staff and other managers to develop processes which are supportive of student success. The Dean also works with staff and students from the other colleges and sites in the District to review and implement the District Strategic Plan in coordination with college planning and to promote effective student learning in a multi-college environment.

The academic disciplines which the Dean of Humanities and Social Science currently supervises include: Anthropology, English, English as a Second Language, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Sign Language Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Reading, Social Science, Sociology, Spanish and Vietnamese. However, the college may adjust the disciplines in the various divisions, and these adjustments could result in changes to the list above.

. Provides leadership in the Humanities and Social Science area for teaching excellence and innovative student learning, for the assurance of student success, and for the continued evaluation and improvement of area instructional programs.
. Organizes and oversees assessment of student learning outcomes for systematic and continuous quality improvement.
. Promotes staff development and supports a climate which fosters innovation and academic excellence.
. Supports a climate which promotes cultural competence.
. Performs duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional areas.
. Promotes a collegial atmosphere within Humanities and Social Science and throughout the college.
. Develops instructor assignments and develops class schedules which meet student needs.
. Assumes leadership and responsibility for staff evaluation and development in the instructional areas.
. Assumes leadership and responsibility for curriculum development and evaluation in the instructional areas.
. Develops area budget recommendations and facilities utilization plans.
. Administers day, extended day, weekend and summer offerings in the instructional area.
. Coordinates the activities of the faculty and staff in the instructional area.
. Serves as a member of the Cosumnes River College management team to assist in the coordination of all campus activities.
. Attends and serves on assigned college and district committees.
. Assists in the articulation of area programs with other institutions and in the development of partnerships with external agencies.
. Employs techniques such as interest-based conflict resolution and other appropriate strategies to resolve disputes and to enhance communication and cooperation among the members of the college and district communities.
. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
. Works flexible hours including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree* from an accredited institution completed by June 2, 2014.

2. Have one year formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses.

Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Additional Salary Information:
Additional stipend for an earned doctorate from an accredited university.
