The full-time academic position of Associate Dean in New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering departments of English, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Communication.
Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum development, assessment, department chairs, and faculty staffing, and supervising resource centers and tutoring programs but not limited to the following:
Develop and revise curriculum as needed
Monitor students’ progress; outcomes assessment; evaluation of English language and communications offerings; implementation of changes based on results
Supervise academic activity of English Departments in Russia and France
Supervise full-time and adjunct faculty and evaluation processes including classroom/peer observations, student evaluation of faculty, and faculty self-evaluations
Recommend faculty for promotions and salary increases
Supervise Resource Centers
Provide on-going faculty development for the various departments of NYSCAS
Compile and maintain academic reports including the Annual Chairperson’s Report
Assist in the selection of full-time and adjunct faculty
Develop departmental budgets, and ensure that programs are well managed and are operated in a cost-efficient manner
Serve on Curriculum Committee, Committee on Academic Standing, and Outcomes Assessment Committee
Plan fall Faculty Orientation and spring Faculty Development Day
Oversee production of Student Literary Journal
Approve academic change forms
Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Education, Preparation, and Training
10 years senior-level academic, English, or ESL experience
Creativity; high levels of energy and initiative
Strong commitment to fostering student learning and academic excellence
Ability to work with diverse faculty and students
Exceptional language skills, both oral and written
Ability to handle multiple high priority activities simultaneously
Sophisticated degree of interpersonal competency; ability to work closely with diverse groups
Multi-site responsibilities in the 5 boroughs
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Blackboard
Frequent travel to other Touro locations including occasional evenings and Sundays
