HOUSTON WRITING FELLOWS PROGRAM
The English Department is inviting applications for the Houston Writing Fellows Program for writing instructors interested in joining a cohort of teachers and scholars committed to the theory and practice of writing pedagogy. The appointment is for two academic years commencing Fall 2014, subject to a positive annual review. The Houston Writing Fellows Program is designed to enhance the intellectual and pedagogical community of instructors involved in the English Department’s writing courses by providing workshops, mini-conferences, mentorship opportunities, and other events that explore writing pedagogy. Fellows teach within the University’s Core Curriculum, participate in and contribute to the extended exploration of the theory and practice of writing pedagogy. They have opportunities to work with the English Department’s faculty in Rhetoric, Composition, and Pedagogy, to explore and develop new pedagogies, and to enhance their own teaching practices.
Eligibility: Individuals who have received their Ph.D. or M.F.A. degrees within the past five years are invited to apply to the Department of English’s Houston Writing Fellowship Program. Participants normally teach the equivalent of four sections per semester of the first-yearcomposition sequence (English 1303 or 1304), and are expected to participate in the events, workshops, seminars offered by the Department’s writing program. The salary is $45,000 per academic year, plus benefits, and a budget of up to $1,200 for conference travel and professional development is available.
Application process and criteria for selection: Candidates should submit a letter of application that speaks to their teaching experience and their interest in writing pedagogy, and addresses how they can contribute to and benefit from the Houston Writing Fellowship Program. Successful candidates will combine a record of teaching and academic excellence and evidence of the ability to contribute to the intellectual community of the Program.
