Duties & Responsibilities

The position reports to the Director of the Health & Human Performance Center and the Director of PHED, Wellness, and Dance program. The position is responsible for the administration of the campus Wellness Program, fitness programs, fitness assessments, personal training program and group exercise programs. Duties and responsibilities include: Provide opportunities for HHPC students and members to learn how to safely and effectively utilize equipment in the FCC by offering exercise prescriptions through the assessment lab. Provide opportunities for participants to increase their skills and knowledge about specific topics related to health and conditioning. (i.e. sports specific exercise, dieting, low back pain, etc.) Initiate marketing strategies that will target appropriate audiences for specific health related or conditioning programs. Interview, recommend for hire, train, and evaluate all HHPC group exercise instructors and Assessment Lab staff. Coordinate scheduling of HHPC group exercise programs. Assure staff compliance with required certifications. Provide opportunities for group exercise instructors to increase their knowledge, improve their skills, and obtain continuing education credits. Track and record participation in all group exercise classes and assessment lab services. Submit annual participation reports to the Director of the HHPC. Insure utilization of standard assessment protocols by lab staff when conducting assessments. Ensure assessment lab staff are trained in conducting the technical aspects of individualized fitness assessments including sub-maximal cardiovascular, strength and flexibility tests, and a variety of body composition methods. Develop and manage a personal training program. Recommend equipment for purchase in assessment lab and Fitness Condition Center. Collaborate with faculty/instructors to implement standard assessment protocols for both credit and non-credit HHPC classes. Supervise and staff assessment lab special events. Operate a campus wellness program utilizing assessment lab staff and personal trainers. Teach CPR and First Aid for HHPC employees. Act as liaison for San Juan Regional Medical Center Full Engagement Training and City of Farmington’s Wellness Committee. Teach PHED classes; 9-credits in the fall, 9-credits in spring, and 6-credits in summer. Maintain three hours of open office hours for students. Position supervises Assessment Lab Manager, Assessment Lab Aides, Group Exercise Staff and Personal Trainers. Other duties as assigned by the Director of the HHPC.


A Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, Recreation Management or a related field plus a minimum of four years of related work experience required. Previous teaching experience in college level exercise and sports sciences classes is also required for this position. An ACSM or NSCA Certification preferred; CPR, First Aid, and AED Instructor certification and valid driver’s license required. The individual must possess outstanding supervision, communication and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work positively and professionally with community and college members. The coordinator must have the ability to work under stressful conditions; have strong problem-solving skills; flexibility; and a strong commitment to customer service and the community college philosophy. The individual selected must be dynamic and self motivated and have the ability to supervise large staffs, exceed customer expectations and foster continuous process/quality improvement. The individual must enjoy participating in a collaborative work environment with student learning as the focus. The coordinator must be willing to work irregular hours when necessary and perform other job related duties as assigned. Ability to lift up to 25lbs related equipment/office supplies.
