Detailed Job Description

The department of chemistry at Utah Valley University seeks an organic chemist for a tenure track opening. Ideal applicants will have earned a doctorate in organic chemistry. Under the direction of the department chair, the faculty member will instruct, develop and evaluate undergraduate organic chemistry courses and laboratories for biology and chemistry majors. The faculty member is strongly encouraged to establish an undergraduate research program.
Summary of Duties:
-Maintains a student-oriented approach to education.
-Coordinates classroom learning activities effectively.
-Manages classroom expectations.
-Advises and mentors students.
-Assists in major and program development in cooperation with chemistry department faculty.
-Maintains professional competency through continued scholarship and study.
-Forges collaborations with the local chemistry industry to provide opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in organic chemistry is preferred. However, applicants with a master's degree and full-time undergraduate teaching experience will be considered.
-Teaching experience with corresponding references is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Excellence in teaching organic chemistry through effective instructional strategies.
-Effective interpersonal skills and willingness to serve on committees.
-Organic chemistry laboratory skills.
-Current scholarly capabilities sufficient to engage undergraduate research students.
