The Business Intelligence (BI) Report Coordinator works with functional users, data modelers, architects, data analysts, and functional teams to design, develop, implement and support enterprise-wide Business Intelligence reporting solutions for the MSU Denver Operational Data Store and Enterprise Data Warehouse. Duties include report development; user support; training and mentoring; report administration; Testing; and backup support on merged package development.
Position works additional hours, as needed and completes other related duties as assigned.
(30%) Business analysis and Production BI Report development:
Analyze and Develop complex Cognos report definitions and reports by analyzing functional user requirements to design report mock-ups, specifications and production reports. On an enterprise scale, analyze departmental and school wide reporting and data extraction needs. Develop all Cognos reports used “institution wide”, over multiple departments, or needing additional security based on the sensitivity of data.
(25%) User Support:
Build user/customer relationships by providing support to functional users in determining tables, joins, data, user defined variables, etc. needed to create their reports. Support functional users in testing reports and putting reports into production. Assist functional users in defining business requirements of reports they create. Assist functional and technical users with Cognos Ad-Hoc report troubleshooting, post-production performance issues, and report queries.
Provide basic and intermediate Cognos, ODS, and report development classes/training to functional users. Classes and training may be to groups in formal classroom setting or individually, depending on need. Develop training and support materials. Develop related procedures and operating instructions for functional users. One on one mentoring, as needed.
(10%) Administration and BI Standards:
Along with department representatives, IT staff, and management – develop reporting, testing, and production standards. Develop and maintain a Cognos Report Catalog. This will be used to assist functional users and technical staff in determining current reports that may fit their needs as well as document any report run instructions. Create and maintain variable and reusable code library.
In conjunction with IT Banner system module leads, test all Cognos reports for accuracy that are developed by the position or by functional users if the report is to be used outside of the functional user’s department and mitigate any issues. Assist in testing Cognos and ODS upgrades. Insure that all reports are functioning correctly after upgrades.
(5%) ODS Merged Package Development:
Assist the Data warehousing Manager in the definition, design, development or modification of Framework Manager (“FM”) custom merged cross-module ODS packages, and user defined variables. Create and maintain a user-friendly ODS data dictionary.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience, and five years of experience performing progressively responsible duties in an information technology Business Intelligence (BI) environment including Report development, administration and support.

- Business Intelligence report experience in Education.
- Experience with report development using Cognos Report Studio and the maintaining the Cognos Report Catalog.
- Experience administering or reporting for the Ellucian Operational Data Store (ODS) and/or Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
- Technical experience working with the Ellucian (formerly SunGard) Banner suite of products.
- Oracle SQL*Plus/PL*SQL.
- Masters degree in a computer related field.
