Associate Vice President of Instruction & Learning Resources

The Institution:

American River College is a public community college serving over 30,000 students in suburban Sacramento County and granting associate degrees and professional certificates. Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Associate Vice President provides administrative leadership in the planning, organization, and evaluation of the instructional programs and services of the college.


. Provides leadership of continued evaluation and improvement of assigned instructional programs.

. Supervises three or more designated area deans who are responsible for specific instructional areas. 

. Coordinates in the personnel selection process including developing and reviewing selection criteria, recruiting, screening, interviewing, and recommending within area of responsibility.

. Coordinates scheduling of curriculum offerings and the monitoring of instructor assignments.

. Prepares instructional related program, facilities, personnel, financial, descriptive and analytical reports.

. Works closely with the Research office and the Academic Senate to provide leadership in program review, transfer academy and final exam schedule.

. Assists in coordinating instructional personnel policies and procedures of the college and district.

. Serves on local, district, and state committees as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction or College President; aids in interpreting college programs and services to the general public.

. Uses technology to organize, categorize and coordinate instructional data and reports.

. Participates as a management team member in general activities related to personnel, support, facilities, and funding of the instructional programs.

. Provides leadership and management support for a variety of college-wide instructional areas.

. Manages grants and budgets.

. Assists Vice President of Instruction with enrollment management, productivity and growth.

. Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when necessary.

. May assist with sexual harassment and discrimination complaints when needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution completed by April 1, 2014. 

2. Two years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment. 

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process. When education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.

Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses.

Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Additional Salary Information:

Additional stipend for an earned doctorate from an accredited university.
