GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This full-time faculty position is one of two in the education program and includes a significant focus on early childhood education and care as well as a focus on teacher preparation. The faculty role includes teaching, advising, accreditation activities, outcomes assessment, and involvement in shared governance. The program includes student internship placements, and this faculty position will have a leadership role in the identification of appropriate placements, supervision of students in the field, and maintaining positive relationships with community-based educational partners and programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Teach early education and care courses and a limited range of other education courses, i.e., EDU 111 Introduction to Special Education;
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development and program outcomes’ assessment strategies;
  • Provide academic advisement for a minimum of 18 students;
  • Oversee the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation and its related annual reporting;
  • Coordinate student placement and learning in required program student teaching and civic engagement;
  • Serve as the departmental liaison to the future on-site child care facility;
  • Maintain regular office hours;
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and collaborative learning environment in and beyond the classroom;
  • Demonstrate mutual respect and support for diversity;
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed as well as contribute to shared governance;
  • Serve on local, regional, and statewide early childhood education and care committees as needed;
  • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental, divisional, and college meetings as well as related evening events; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the MCCC collective bargaining agreement.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION:

Salary range is $42,921 - $56,000.00. The appointment salary is based on one’s education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure. Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in early childhood education, child development, child and family studies or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate credits in early childhood/family studies as per the National Association for the Education of Young Children Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation’s requirements;
  • Successful teaching experience with education courses at the college level;
  • Successful teaching experience with young children (birth to 8);
  • Demonstrated online teaching experience or demonstrated commitment to integrating current and emerging technologies and pedagogy;
  • Experience with NAYEC accreditation;
  • Familiarity with the Department of Early Education and Care’s (EEC) QRIS Standards and professional development initiatives;
  • Commitment to social justice, equity and human rights issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to address diverse learning styles;
  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary approaches;
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty, and staff;
  • Commitment to fostering healthy collegial relationships within the department and throughout the college; and
  • Commitment to professional growth and development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with college-level curriculum development of early childhood education and care courses specifically and education courses generally;
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college;
  • Successful community college teaching experience;
  • Second language acquisition and ability to contribute to bilingual programming;
  • Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D. in early childhood education, child development, child and family studies or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate credits in early childhood/family studies;
  • At least three years’ experience teaching a range of undergraduate education courses; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to building academic-community relationships
