Assistant Professor of Music, Full Time Tenure-Track, Coordinator of String Studies and Violin Studio
Provide creative leadership for a large urban undergraduate string program, serving as coordinator for instruction, juries, and auditions. Provide studio violin instruction to music majors and minors. Teach string techniques, string chamber music, and other courses in accordance with aptitudes and experience. Tenure-track faculty at MSU Denver are expected to teach a 12-hour load each semester, engage in meaningful scholarly and creative activities, and perform service to the department, school, university, and professional communities. Work in active partnership with the entire faculty to recruit and retain students. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with, recruit, and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population. The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups. “ABD” in violin, or Master’s degree in violin plus significant local recognition.
Doctorate in violin; or Master’s degree in violin plus significant regional recognition. Experience coordinating a college strings program, including recruiting. Demonstrated community engagement (e.g. K-12 schools, community partnerships, service learning, etc). Experience teaching other college-level music courses, such as string techniques, music theory or history. Demonstrated strengths in string pedagogical methods, such as Suzuki, El Sistema methodologies, etc. Performance experience in a secondary idiom, such as jazz, other American improvised traditions, or early music. Demonstrated experience in working with urban students in programs of recruitment, retention, and student success. Please note that completion of the doctorate or achievement of significant regional recognition will be required within two years of hire date.
