The Department of African and African American Studies of Metropolitan State College of Denver invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position, beginning Fall 2012. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in African Studies or African American Studies with a concentration in the social sciences or a doctorate/terminal degree in a related social science field with a formal concentration in or significant research and teaching in African American Studies. Candidates with demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate courses on Continental Africa are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes (4 courses, 12 hours per semester), to advise students, to demonstrate scholarly activities, and to serve on department and College-wide committees as needed. Candidates also will be expected to teach a range of courses that focus on Continental Africa, as well as Introduction to African American Studies. The appointee must also demonstrate a record of community activities and a record of successful experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underserved students, including students of color.
