The Department of Elementary, Linguistically Diverse, K-12 and Secondary Education at Metropolitan State University invites applications for two full-time tenure track elementary education faculty members at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2014.
This posting is being used to fill two positions in the Elementary Education area of the Department of Teacher Education.
Teach 12 semester hours of day and/or evening courses in Elementary Education including instructional methods in science and math, foundation courses, and curriculum and management courses for teacher candidates in the Elementary Education licensure program. Furthermore, the candidate must have a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and school personnel in supervision of clinical experiences and/or student teachers in the field, participate in partnership schools, and a desire to work with a diverse student body including, but not limited to, working adults and students of color to increase student retention and success. The successful candidate will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate and/or masters level students.
Engage in Scholarship activities appropriate to the discipline.
Provide service to the department, school, university and profession.

ABD in Elementary Education or related field.
Doctorate in Elementary Education or in an area of curriculum and/or instruction related to elementary education. Five years of elementary school teaching in grade K through 6 general classroom or math and science K – 6 classroom. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate methods courses in science and math AND/OR assessment, classroom management and instruction. Demonstrated experience in multicultural educational populations. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups including outreach to and retention of students of color. Willingness to collaborate with K-6 public schools in partnership activities. Demonstrated community engagement experience, e.g., partnerships for community-based research projects, service learning.
