Saint Mary's College invites applications for a full-time Adjunct Professor position in the Department of Communication. The appointment is for one academic year with the possibility of renewal. Starting date: July 1, 2014.

Full-time contractual responsibilities entail a workload of 7 courses or course equivalents in the academic year. Minimum workload is 5 courses or course equivalents.
• Director of Forensics. The director receives the equivalent of two course credits for administering intercollegiate forensics, which supports parliamentary debate, platform, and limited preparation individual events. The director is responsible for the scholarship program, which includes vetting candidates, awarding scholarships, and tracking compliance. The director coaches competitors, travels to and coaches/judges at intercollegiate tournaments. The director oversees the assistant coach and ensures the integrity of practice sessions, research activities, and competitive actions. The director is responsible for outreach to raise the profile of the forensics program.
• Academic Instruction. The successful candidate will teach the forensics lab each semester, representing a 1.33 annual course load. Also teaches other Communication courses each semester according to department need and director’s areas of interest. The director may offer to teach in the college’s core Collegiate Seminar and January Term programs as appropriate.
• Advisor to Student Debate Union. The director advises the Student Debate Union, which sponsors debates, dialogues, and other public assemblies to foster argument in the public space. Forensic team members serve as Debate Union officers. The Union provides a non-competitive environment for students who are not in intercollegiate forensics to engage in public advocacy and research.
• The director serves as an academic adviser to students in the Communication Department.
Experience and Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Communication or related field at the time of hire is preferred.
• High School of collegiate competitive or coaching experience in forensics.
• Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching.
• The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions of the College, and maintain a relationship with the team's benefactor.

Each Security Report includes statistics for the past three years concerning crimes and incidents (whether they occurred on campus, in off-campus building and property owned or controlled by the College, or on public property adjacent to campus) reported to campus security authorities. Each Security Report also provides campus policies and practices concerning security – how to report sexual assaults and other crimes, crime prevention efforts, policies/laws governing alcohol and drugs, victims’ assistance programs, student discipline, college resources, and other matters.
