Detailed Job Description

Metropolitan State College of Denver seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in the Department of Biology.
Teach 12 hours per semester, including a course in Methods of Science Teaching for secondary education, General Biology, upper-division biology courses in area of expertise, and all required laboratories. Establish a research program involving undergraduates. Engage in scholarly activities and professional development; advise students, including those seeking secondary licensure; provide service to the Department, the School of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the College, and the community. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the education needs of a diverse urban population.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in biology or closely related field by July 1, 2012.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology. At least one year of full-time experience teaching science in a secondary school setting. At least one year of successful college-level teaching in biology. Experience teaching a course in Methods of Science Teaching for secondary education or demonstrable expertise to develop such a course. Experience teaching and advising a diverse student population; experience in recruiting and retaining diverse students including students of color; experience in community engagement (e.g. programs in K-12, community partnerships, service learning).
