OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Assistant: Database Programmer/ Administrator

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Associate Director of Administrative Services

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

 This position is responsible for assisting in the support of the university’s administrative information systems. In addition, this position supports the expansion of software capabilities as well as the evaluation and implementation of new technologies in support of the administrative functions of the university.

 RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Perform the duties of a database administrator for the university’s ERP and related software.
  2. Implement new systems and technologies, and support modifications to existing systems.
  3. Maintain documentation for existing and new software systems.
  4. Implement software testing scenarios to insure quality control.
  5. Assist with establishing procedures to insure consistency and streamline business processes in the university’s database systems.
  6. Troubleshoot existing processes and initiate corrective action.
  7. Process operational functions and ad-hoc reports as requested by various departments.
  8. Provide recommendations on the use of administrative software to better support users’ business needs.
  9. Investigate new technologies for uses in improving existing information systems.
  10. Serve as a liaison with vendor support personnel in order to communicate and resolve problems, and to remain current with the direction of the software systems.
  11. Serve as a technical resource to the user community in the use of administrative software and systems.
  12. Assist with user training in the use of administrative software systems, as needed.
  13. Perform duties of a related nature within this area of professional competence.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, and a minimum of 2 years programming experience.
  2. Proficiency in high level programming language along with database administration skills.
  3. Knowledge of multiple software systems and demonstrated skill utilizing integrated software.
  4. Experience with utilizing and supporting report writing tools.
  5. Previous experience using Ellucian’s Colleague software and its related components preferred.
  6. Previous experience with Unidata, MS SQL, SAP Business Objects, MS .NET, JavaScript, Apache Tomcat, Linux a plus.
  7. Previous experience working in a higher education setting preferred.
  8. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  9. Ability to perform duties with or without direct supervision.
