Counsels students regarding educational and disability accommodative issues applicable under Federal/State law including, but not limited to, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Collects and evaluates educational, psychological, medical, career, and vocational diagnostic information, as provided by the student or others to determine student service eligibility
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in Counseling & Guidance, Educational Psychology, Social Work, or related Social Science field and two years of full time professional employment related to the summary of duties.
Must demonstrate knowledge of medical and/or psychological conditions and be adept at academic counseling. Must have knowledge of educational accommodations and an plans to assist individuals with disabilities. Must have a knowledge how to interpret educational, vocational, and/or career assessments. Must be familiar with the limitations of learning disabilities of a wide variety of disability conditions, including cognitive learning styles. Must have a rudimentary knowledge of the American Disabilities Act (1990), Vocational Rehabilitation Act Section 504 (1973), GRAMA, FERPA, and other federal and state statutes.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to work with individuals and departments to assess and reconcile work/academic situations. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
