Advises all high school students involved in Concurrent Enrollment. Counsel student’s in General Academic majors and general education courses, as well as relevance to high school requirements. Provide developmental and career advising with an emphasis toward degree completion. Work with students and parents to develop an individualized education plan. Provide information to students on available University and State scholarships.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus two years of related experience or an associate’s degree plus four years of experience related to activities normally found in academic advising or a combination of education and experience totaling six years.
Knowledge of secondary and post-secondary advising to aid students in the transition to higher education. Knowledge of high school, two-year college program, and traditional four-year college graduation requirements. Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications.
Skill in academic counseling, career guidance, high school student retention and graduation strategies, college-readiness strategies, and first-generation college student preparation. Strong supervisor and leadership skills. • Skill in data tracking, record keeping, writing reports, and maintaining student and staff records.
Ability to collaborate effectively with other personnel, partners, and external parties. Ability to create presentations and present them effectively and professionally to diverse audiences. Ability to receive feedback and implement changes as needed. Ability to work independently on a multi-task level and prioritize and follow projects and assignments through to completion in a timely manner. Ability to deal with diverse personalities and a high-stress environment. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to serve individuals with diverse personalities through the use of effective interpersonal verbal and written communication skills including various electronic media, telephone, facsimile, e-mail and presentation tools.
