Quinnipiac University is in search of a Dean for its College of Arts and Sciences with the vision to lead a faculty committed to engaged teaching, scholarship, and service. In collaboration with faculty, the Dean will advocate for the integration and advancement of education in the arts and sciences in a rapidly changing higher education landscape. In the last two years the College has added new degree programs and over sixty new full-time faculty members within a University that is achieving national distinction. The College fosters deep, reflective learning as a means to prepare students to meet the world’s challenges. The College is committed to the role of faculty in college governance, supports and encourages new and ongoing pedagogical initiatives and scholarship, and rewards service to the College and University. The College is central to the University’s ongoing efforts to transform the undergraduate core curriculum by incorporating the Learning Paradigm and fostering collaborations between undergraduate and graduate programs.

Profile of the College of Arts and Sciences:

The College of Arts and Sciences is one of the eight academic units of Quinnipiac University. Other schools are Health Sciences, Business and Engineering, Communications, Education, Law, Nursing, and Medicine. The College provides the majority of the University's general education courses and offers 21 undergraduate degrees, including Behavioral Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, English, Game Design and Development, Gerontology, History, Independent Major, Interactive Digital Design, Legal Studies, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Social Services, Sociology, Spanish Language and Literature, and Theater.   The College also offers two graduate programs—a Master of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Master of Social Work—and it shares in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program.  The College currently has 147 full-time faculty and approximately 1800 undergraduate majors and 75 graduate students.

Academic and Administrative Operations

  • Manage academic, fiscal, and administrative matters for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Support curriculum development that ensures compliance with all accreditation standards and University policies.
  • Oversee faculty and staff recruitment, evaluation, and retention, and foster a community that values balance among teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Participate in student recruitment, admission, and outreach.

Leadership Roles

  • Promote the College’s vision, mission, and core values.
  • Engage in fundraising and cultivate alumni support.
  • Develop interdisciplinary opportunities within the College and with other schools in the University.
  • Support Quinnipiac’s commitment to inclusion, multiculturalism, and globalism with all members of the University community.
  • Encourage efforts in curriculum and program development.
  • Promote the use of emerging technology in education.
  • Represent the College at the local, national and international levels.

The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. This academic administrator role is a non-tenured position at Quinnipiac.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • An earned doctorate in one of the arts and sciences disciplines and a record of distinguished academic achievement, including teaching and scholarship.
  • Administrative experience such as department chair, program director, associate dean, or dean.
  • Experience in advancing diversity and inclusivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong positive relationships with faculty, students, staff, and senior administration.
  • Experience in establishing and participating in effective institutional collaborations.
  • Experience in institutional budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate external relationships.
