The Department of Management at Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applications for a full time Business Law tenure track faculty member beginning August, 2014. The position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching; student advising; professional development/scholarship which includes development of intellectual contributions; and service to the department, school, University and community. A desire to work with a diverse student body to increase student retention and success; and perform other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population. Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, and conducting curricular review, including the use of new technology, as appropriate. Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist students in choosing career options, choosing a degree program, successfully completing his/her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of University policies. Scholarly activity is a process which includes activities that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession and results in new material that can be presented to students, as well as new skills which benefit the University community and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. It may include investigative work or basic research; making connections across disciplines; placing the specialized in broad context; making knowledge broadly accessible, solving of problems through the use of scholarly expertise, pedagogical research, creative exploration and production; and methods for the transformation and extension of knowledge, so long as such activities enhance the faculty member’s teaching and/or the faculty member’s ability to perform his or her assigned responsibilities. Service involves contributions to the improvement of the welfare of the University at any level, and typically unpaid public service to the community or professional organizations which benefits the University.
Juris Doctorate and passed a U.S. state bar exam; or ABD.
Law school courses in Business and/or graduate coursework in Business. A record of recent refereed publications or other intellectual contributions in the Business Law/Business Management field. Previous college/university teaching experience and industry experience is desirable. The preferred candidate will be qualified to teach a range of Business Law courses. Experience with diverse groups is a plus.
