The Department of Film, Video and Interactive Media at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a full-time renewable term contract, or tenure-track position, to teach graduate and undergraduate social media courses in a student-centered environment, beginning August 2014. Appointment and rank will be commensurate with the successful candidates professional and academic qualifications. The position requires the ability to teach social media in both the graduate Interactive Media (MS) Program and undergraduate courses in the School of Communications.
The School of Communications' Master of Science program in Interactive Media focuses on the principles and practices of creating content for distribution through the Internet, portable media devices, and related digital platforms. The program's mission is to provide a master's level education wherein students prepare to become interactive leaders, producers, and managers for national and global organizations.
The School of Communications emphasizes a commitment to academic excellence, diversity, inclusiveness and shared governance and embraces the teacher/scholar model of higher education. The School has approximately 1,000 undergraduate students in journalism, public relations, media studies, and film, video and interactive media. The School offers graduate programs in journalism, public relations and interactive media.
The successful candidate will teach courses from the interactive media graduate curriculum including but not limited to: social media techniques and practice, social media analytics, community management, and social media strategies; plus undergraduate courses in social media. Course are taught on-line and on-campus.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to coordinate the graduate social media curriculum under the supervision of the interactive media program director, and will advise on the undergraduate social media curriculum.
For a tenure-track appointment, additional responsibilities include developing and/or maintaining an active research or creative agenda leading to scholarly publication or professional recognition; and participating in service to the department, school, and university.
Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:
Masters level degree or higher in social media or related field, as well as demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate social media, or related media courses.
Professional experience in social media is highly desirable. Advanced professional experience in social media will be considered in lieu of college level teaching experience.
To be considered for a tenure track position the candidate must have an M.F.A. or PhD.
