Detailed Job Description

Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Director of University Teaching and Learning.  This newly created position will provide vision and oversight for all aspects of faculty development related to teaching and learning, including determining appropriate support, resources, programming, and training. The Director will be responsible for continuous improvement in a vibrant and diverse range of faculty development programs to support teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning. This role will support a university comprised of eight Colleges/Schools and 35 departments, with more than 300 full-time faculty and 600 part-time faculty.  This is an academic administrator role and does not come with tenure or a tenure-track appointment. The Director will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

  • Assist Academic Affairs in achieving the goals of the New Synthesis via implementation of the Quinnipiac University Learning Paradigm
  • Work closely with Department Chairs and Deans to coordinate faculty development for innovative teaching, learning, and the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Plan, develop, and manage faculty initiatives that incorporate the latest research in teaching and learning that integrates the symbiosis of the teacher-scholar model
  • Design faculty events, workshops, and programs to improve teaching and learning
  • Work closely with Department Chairs and Deans to be a resource to faculty for improving teaching effectiveness
  • Coordinate and promote service/experiential learning
  • Collaborate with keys areas of the university on strategic planning regarding campus wide technology use for the enhancement of student learning
  • Work in close partnership with other key areas of academic and student affairs to foster the connection between co-curricular activities and classroom experiences

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • Demonstrated significant experience in creating and developing robust faculty development programs in an institution of higher education
  • Expertise in the most current thinking and application of innovative pedagogy, curriculum design and development of metrics around outcomes
  • Previous experience in academic leadership roles such as department chair or program director
  • A terminal degree in a field of professional qualification
  • Understanding of a Learning Paradigm teaching environment
  • Evidence of organizational skills, attention to detail, and intellectual flexibility
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment and creatively use resources
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration skills
