Detailed Job Description

PART-TIME TECHNICAL ASSISTANT II, ACADEMIC PLACEMENT AND TESTING: (Haverhill Campus) 20 hours weekly: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9 AM – 2:30 PM with Wednesdays off. May be required to work occasional Saturdays. (AFSCME Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: January 4, 2014

This position will be based in the Academic Placement and Testing Center, Haverhill Campus. Administer and proctor a variety of tests including Accuplacer state-mandated assessments, English as a Second Language, Health Professions testing, proctored/remote testing and testing for students who require special accommodations. Assist in the administration of other test services such as GED and CLEP/DSST as necessary. Provide test data and other pertinent test information to academic and enrollment advisors, especially during peak enrollment periods. Participate in special assessments which will require occasional weekend, early morning, evening or off-site sessions. This position will be based in the Student One-Stop Center satellite testing office, the main office of the Haverhill Campus and will sometimes be required to work at the Lawrence Campus when necessary. Other responsibilities include light data entry, answering phones and walk-in inquiries, generating mailings, placing orders and other light office work as necessary.


Must have one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time related office experience. Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment with the ability to multi-task. Must have the ability to demonstrate sensitivity, patience and a customer-service friendly attitude to first-time college students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Strong verbal and organizational skills as well as the ability to pay attention to detail required. Must be comfortable giving detailed instructions to small groups and on an individual, walk-in basis in order to clearly communicate testing instructions.


  • Associate’s Degree strongly preferred
  • Experience with college entrance assessments, Accuplacer and other computerized test systems such as TEAS, HOBET and CLEP strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Banner Information System preferred.
  • Knowledge of registration, advising and other college policies, procedures.

Salary: $354.01 – $479.55 weekly ($18,408.52 - $24,936.60 annually).  An appointment from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at Step I of the range.
