The Tufts University Advancement Division (UA) is a comprehensive development and alumni relations enterprise with a staff complement of approximately 185 FTE. Functional units within UA include development/fundraising, alumni relations, stewardship and donor relations, advancement communications, special events, gift processing, research, prospect management, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, information systems and management, and infrastructure services. UA's mission is to build strong, lifelong relationships with Tufts University's constituents, match donors' interests with the University's needs and priorities, and secure the financial resources necessary for Tufts to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. The Division is strongly committed to serving the academic agenda of the University, creating a culture of philanthropy in the extended Tufts community, and pursuing excellence and best practices in its work. In close coordination with the University’s President, Provost, and other senior leaders, UA is currently planning for the next major fundraising campaign at Tufts.
Reporting to the Vice President of University Advancement/Development, the Executive Director will provide leadership, direction, and coordination to strengthen and expand the services provided by Advancement Services for the development, advancement-related communications, and alumni relations programs at the University. S/he will strategically align available resources that best leverage the talent and tools necessary to reach campaign goals aligned with Tufts' academic priorities. S/he will partner with the Vice President in ensuring that all operational and business models are best in practice and align with the overall mission of the University. S/he will build, manage, and steward strong relationships with colleagues on the Senior Management Team for University Advancement, the development and alumni relations staff in the division, and key partners in the Finance, Facilities Services, Tufts Technology Services and Human Resources departments. S/he will build strong, collaborative relationships and maintain regular communications with colleagues across the University and work closely with the Vice President as a strategic partner in the leadership of Tufts’ University Advancement. S/he will engage advancement leadership, including members of the Senior Management Team, School Directors and Alumni Relations. S/he will advise the Vice President regarding organizational development, performance management systems, information technology applications, staffing and related training needs of the division and will be a central architect of management information tools that emphasize transparency of individual and team performance. S/he will work in concert with the Senior Management Team in Campaign Planning and readiness. S/he will work directly with Finance in overseeing the allocation and performance of all divisional operating budget(s). This position will also partner and align with Human Resources in ensuring that all recruitment and professional development goals of the division are met. Along with strong analytical, planning and communication skills, the Executive Director will have proven management experience, providing the staff with the leadership, motivation, and support needed to continually surpass ambitious goals. She/he will manage five direct reports: a Manager of Advancement Technology Services, a Director of Information Systems, a Director of Prospect Development, an Assistant Director of Planning and Administration, and aDirector of Gift and Information Services.

Advanced degree preferred. 10 plus years of directly related experience is preferred. Familiarity with donor related databases such as Advance, Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud is a plus. Experience in Campaign Planning is highly desirable.
