Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, healthcare, and service, is seeking applicants for an appointment in either the Biomedical Engineering Department or the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, beginning Fall 2014. Applicants at the professor, associate professor, and assistant professor ranks are encouraged to apply. Parks College, founded in 1927, became an integral part of Saint Louis University(SLU) in 1946. The college offers academic programs of excellence that integrate the education of the whole person, in the liberal and Jesuit traditions, with classroom and laboratory experiences in the major field of study. Laboratory coursework and undergraduate research are hallmarks of the student learning experience at Saint Louis University. The college offers ABET accredited bachelor's degree programs in Aerospace, Biomedical, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as AABI-accredited bachelor's degree program in Flight Science. A new program in Civil Engineering was started in 2009 and new graduate programs in Engineering and Aviation were added in Fall 2010. SLU is an active member of Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN).
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in mechanical or biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline and have the potential to develop externally funded research programs in an area closely related to our established strength in Innovation/Product Development and Entrepreneurship with focus in Biomechanics and Interdisciplinary Design. The successful candidate is expected to develop collaborative opportunities between the departments. Responsibilities include shared teaching and mentoring between the Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering programs. Opportunities for collaboration exist with other research programs in engineering at SLU and members of other KEEN schools, science departments, SLU Health Sciences Center (medicine, nursing, and allied health), and Center for Emerging Technologies.
