Mississippi State University is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position in Health Promotion. This is a full time position (9 month with summer teaching appointment available) at the Assistant Professor level, beginning in August 2014. The position will be based on main campus in Starkville, MS with both on-campus and distance learning responsibilities.
The Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion (FSNHP) at MSU offers undergraduate degrees with concentrations in Nutrition, Food Science and Culinology; Master of Science degrees with concentrations in Nutrition, Food Science and Health Promotion; and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Food Science and Nutrition. The Health Promotion area currently has over 50 graduate students. This department has 18 full time faculty involved in research, teaching and extension, and over 200 students at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Position: This is a 9 month, tenure track position in the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion at Mississippi State University. The position is a 9 month academic year appointment. Summer salary for teaching and research is possible and will be based on separate agreements. Duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level classes in Health Promotion along with advising and recruiting students. The Assistant professor is also expected to conduct scholarly research, seek external funding and establish a record of scholarly publications and presentations. Participation is also expected in departmental, college, university, community and professional service. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach on-campus as well as distance education (Blackboard Learn) classes. Candidate should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: health promotion program design, implementation and evaluation, epidemiology, health education for diverse populations, health communications, community health, alcohol, tobacco and other drug education.
Qualifications include an earned Doctorate in Health Education, Health Promotion or a closely related field. ABD considered. Demonstrated ability/potential for successful performance in the areas of teaching, research and service. Demonstrated ability/potential to secure external funding and ability to publish in peer reviewed scholarly journals in required. Applicants with developed computer technology skills and demonstrated ability/potential to contribute to a distance learning program are highly desirable. Relevant research experience in important health issues in the State of Mississippi,( health disparities, obesity chronic diseases and other social and behavioral issues) is desired.
