Detailed Job Description

This position provides a variety of lead administrative/analyst tasks related to computing systems, including Windows server 2003/2008/2008R2, VMWare, ESX/ESXi, Microsoft SQL 2008/2008 R2, storage area network and CommVault backup system for all students, faculty, and staff. This position will consult with end users, managers, vendors, and other individuals from Information Technology Services (ITS) as well as the University. This individual will provide leadership to system administrators when installing, maintaining, and updating server hardware, operating system software and supported applications. This position works proactively with other system administrators within ITS and from other departments to provide advice, establish levels of access, and provide training.


System Administration of the MSU Denver Windows environment includes: over 150 Windows servers, including support of file, application, and print services. The enterprise Active Directory is 2008 R2, which consists of three domains and 50,000 users, computers, and groups. Assist and facilitate when installing, modifying and troubleshooting VMWare ESX 4.1/5.1 hosts and all the virtual servers. Enterprise backup solution on CommVault Simpana 9.0. This position supports, maintains, and monitors all server hardware and software on the local area and wide area network. This position leads the planning, design, and enhancement of all the Windows enterprise infrastructure. This individual will implement and maintain all necessary changes and updates to the Active Directory system, and manage, update, and implement applications requiring Windows server operation system. The position will also support Microsoft Exchange 2007.

Contact vendors and/or maintenance engineers when installing software/hardware or trouble shooting the Windows 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2 server environments. Working with vendor partners to identify new technologies that can improve services related to Windows.

LAN, WAN, SAN, and CommVault backup systems administration which includes: guidance and direction for managing Active Directory, such as: creating/deleting user accounts for faculty/staff and students, departmental network administrative accounts, server based services, PC-based services, local and remote services.

Windows System Administration 40%.
Backup Administration 40%.
Email Administration 20%.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of one year of experience working with Commvault.
A minimum of one year of experience working with Exchange 2007.
A minimum of two years of experience working with ESX (VMWare) experience.
A minimum of three years of experience working with Active Directory Services.
A minimum of one year of experience working with enterprise storage area networks.
A Bachelors degree from an accredited College/University with CIS/CS or IT related field, or the combination of equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with site to site disaster recovery.
Significant experience supporting an enterprise. Exchange/Office 365 environment.
Three or more years of experience working with Commvault experience.
