Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service is seeking applicants for a tenure-track appointment to run the Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics http://www.slu.edu/bander-centerhome/ about-the-bander-center. The successful candidate's appointment will be in the Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics (CHCE) http://www.slu.edu/bioethics with a possible joint appointment in the candidate's home discipline.
The Albert Gnaegi Center is an independent, degree-granting, and academic Center within the University. It is also the tenure home for its faculty. The Bander Center sits within the Albert Gnaegi Center. Its mission is to promote ethical business practices in medical care and research through the development of training and investigation opportunities for medical students, residents and physicians in practice.
The Albert Gnaegi Center seeks a qualified scholar in the field of medicine, medical professionalism, law, and/or business ethics who will serve as the Director of the Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics. If the successful candidate has a sufficiently strong record of publication, the candidate may also be named to the Bander Endowed Chair for Professionalism and Medical Business Ethics.
The successful candidate will run the Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics, which sits within the Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics, and will report to the Gnaegi Center Director. The Bander Center is devoted to promoting medical professionalism in the arena of the business of health care. The Bander Center Director will carry out educational activities targeting medical students, residents, and faculty within the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and the national medical community. The Director will be expected to have a research agenda related to medical business ethics and professionalism broadly understood. The Director will have a faculty appointment in the Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics and will be expected to contribute to the general teaching, service, and scholarly mission of CHCE. Depending upon the Director's disciplinary expertise and interest, a secondary or joint appointment in another academic unit (such as medicine, law, or business) may be negotiated. Applicants should have a terminal degree (JD, MD, PhD) and show great promise as a teacher and scholar. The successful candidate will have publications in the area of medical business ethics, medical professionalism, or related areas.
