Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, healthcare, and service, is seeking applicants for a faculty position at either the assistant, associate or full professor level, in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department of Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology.
Parks College offers academic programs of excellence that integrate the education of the whole person, with classroom and laboratory experiences in the major field of study. Experiential education and graduate/undergraduate research, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship are hallmarks of the student learning experience at the college. Parks College has made a long-term commitment to a research-led profile while maintaining and enhancing our long-established excellence in engineering and aviation education. The college is strategically adding key senior and junior faculty, including a new Dean who started in September of 2012.
The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering department offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, with 300 undergraduate students, and 30 MS / Ph.D. students. The 13 full-time faculty have research strengths in: aerodynamics; space systems; design and entrepreneurship; energy; innovation, mechanics and manufacturing; and thermofluids. The department has close collaborations with local and national industry and government establishments and is the dominant aerospace and mechanical engineering program in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
The department seeks an applicant in the broader area of aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering, with expertise to strengthen our current research areas. Exceptional candidates in other fields including (but not limited to) unmanned aerial vehicles and mechatronics/robotics will also be considered. Applicants are expected to contribute to the core teaching and research missions in the department. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally-funded, internationally-recognized research program, teach core aerospace and mechanical engineering graduate- and undergraduate-level courses, develop new specialized courses, supervise graduate research and contribute to departmental, college and university services.
Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with strong research and teaching skills, and publication commensurate with a Ph.D. program is required. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
