About Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University is situated at the foot of the Wasatch Front of the Rocky Mountains in Provo, Utah. BYU was founded in 1875 and is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. BYU is one of the largest privately-owned, church-related institutions of higher learning in the United States. Of BYU’s 30,000 full-time students, more than 70% come from outside of Utah, representing all 50 states and 100 foreign countries. At the center of campus is a library with more than 3 million volumes that support the curriculum, scholarly, and creative work of BYU’s 1,589 full-time faculty.  The library offers electronic access, databases, and tools that rank in the top ten of the country.

The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations seeks to fill one continuing status track position (BYU’s equivalent of tenure track) in school leadership. Successful candidates will demonstrate competency in effective building level school leadership practices that are focused on improving teaching and learning for all students. An earned doctorate in educational leadership or a closely-related field is required by August 2014. Experience as a K-12 public school principal is required with demonstrated strength in serving diverse learners.

Successful candidates must have the interest and ability to work collaboratively with personnel in schools, districts, and the BYU-Public School Partnership. They will have published (or demonstrate potential to conduct and publish) independent and collaborative research.

Position Description

The selected candidate will teach graduate courses focused on the role of the building-level principal in serving diverse learners and promoting school improvement.  The selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate collegiality and collaboration with peers. The person selected will engage in teaching, supervising, and mentoring future and current educational leaders; participate with other faculty in the design and delivery of curriculum; supervise doctoral dissertations; contribute to department, school, and university programs; and pursue a scholarly research and publication agenda.  Department faculty members are expected to follow a focused research agenda on salient aspects of the theory and practice of school leadership to improve student learning. Review of applications will commence on December 30th, 2013 and continue until February 28, 2014. Anticipated starting date for the position is August 2014.
