Detailed Job Description

The University of La Verne invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Kinesiology to begin fall semester 2014.

The Kinesiology Department serves approximately 300 majors in three programs: Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with concentrations in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) and Kinesiology Generalist. The department is committed to teaching and scholarly excellence, values multicultural perspectives, fosters a collegial learning community for students and faculty, and actively strives to incorporate cultural diversity into our work.

The Kinesiology Department is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, which is engaged in developing The La Verne Experience, a University-wide initiative that integrates curricular, co-curricular, and community engagement. As a holistic educational approach, it focuses on Learning Communities, Theory-to-Practice, Experiential Learning, and Integrated Learning. Candidates will be expected to collaborate in departmental efforts with The La Verne Experience, including interdisciplinary approaches to education and innovative undergraduate research.

The University of La Verne is a 120-year old, independent, comprehensive, doctoral granting institution in southern California with a strong emphasis on teaching excellence and an increasing commitment to research and publications. The main campus is located in La Verne, a small town of 34,000 people, 35 miles from downtown Los Angeles, and nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Specific Duties

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses in kinesiology and content specific courses in area of expertise; scholarly productivity resulting in scholarly publications, conference presentations, and professional development activities for kinesiology professionals; academic advisement of students within majors; mentoring of student research and senior thesis projects; and service to the department and university. Candidates with the ability to teach one or more of the following are encouraged to apply: Human Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Motor Development, Motor Learning, Motor Control, and/or Exercise Testing and Prescription; as are candidates with ACSM or NSCA certifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Kinesiology or related field, ABD considered, evidence of scholarly productivity and/or potential, evidence of high quality teaching and/or potential, and a proven track record of working with diverse populations.
