Detailed Job Description

Under direction of the Department Chair, and the Dean of the College of Aviation and Public Service, tenure-track faculty of Criminal Justice teaches 12 hours of criminal justice courses per semester. Participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives; participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in Criminal Justice that meet program needs. Plan, prepares and follows and approved course of study with measurable objectives and student outcomes for each course taught.
-Prepares all instructional materials to include course syllabi, exams, readings, instructions, visual aids, and other material in electronic and paper formats. Maintains and submits accurate and current records concerning student accountability, attendance, and performance. Effectively and accurately participate in the Collage of Aviation and Public Service accreditation process.
-Assists Department chair, advisors, faculty and department staff in maintaining effective programs.
-Engages in scholarly activities. Serves as chair or member of academic committees; provides service to the University and community.
-Maintain currency and improve professionally by reading and using material by reading and using techniques through participation in workshops, conferences, and seminars. Develops positive relationships with colleagues and administrators.
-Attends assigned meetings, maintains office hours, and uphold a student centered approach to education. Upholds professional and ethical standards.
-Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD degree in Criminal Justice or a Master's Degree with five years of teaching Criminal Justice in higher education. Evidence of teaching excellence is required.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- A thorough knowledge of the various aspects of the criminal justice field including both personal experience, education and a broad range of principles and methodology of teaching techniques.
- The Criminal Justice Department is especially interested in a unique individual who can provide leadership in instruction strategies, and curriculum development for current on-campus and online courses. Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques. Ability to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate technology-based instruction for education contexts.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.  

Selective Placement Factors

Industry and professional experience outside the classroom is highly respected.
