Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, healthcare, and service, is inviting applications and nominations for the Department Chair position in the Civil Engineering Department at Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology. The department is seeking a dynamic and vision-directed leader in civil engineering with an established record of excellence in engineering education, research and service.

Parks College provides academic programs of excellence that integrate the education of the whole person, with classroom and laboratory experiences in the major field of study. Experiential education, undergraduate and graduate research, and innovation and entrepreneurship are hallmarks of the student learning experience at the College. Parks College offers Bachelor degree programs in Aerospace, Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Flight Science; and Masters and Doctoral degree programs in Engineering and Aviation. The current enrolment is about 800 undergraduate students and 80 graduate students.

Parks College has made a long-term commitment to a research-led profile while maintaining and enhancing our long-established excellence in engineering education and service. Several key senior and junior faculty members have been strategically added to the College, including a new Dean who started in September of 2012. The candidate is expected to be an accomplished scholar in a research field compatible with contemporary and emerging research directions in civil engineering with a record of publications and funding that merits an appointment of full professor with tenure. In addition to the Chair position, the Department currently has one additional tenured or tenure-track faculty position open with the prospect of future faculty additions.

The Department is the dominant civil engineering program in the St. Louis metropolitan area and has close collaborations with local and national industry and government establishments. Areas of research strength are in structures, materials, water resources, environmental, sustainability and transportation.

The next Chair will be an academic leader responsible for management, guidance, and advancement both within the department and with external constituencies. The Chair will be instrumental in the enhancement of existing programs, further development of funded research, and advancement of the department's professional, government, alumni and development relations. The Chair will work closely with the Dean of the College in achieving the strategic objectives set forth by the College and the University.

The successful candidate must have proven leadership and communication skills and demonstrate a high level of energy and creativity. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or related field, a record of academic accomplishment meriting appointment as a tenured professor, and familiarity with Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) processes are required. The candidate must have a professional engineering registration, or earn professional engineering registration within a few years.
