Detailed Job Description

Quinnipiac University invites application for the position of Director of Innovation in Teaching and Learning.  The Director of Innovation in Teaching and Learning will provide vision and oversight for all forms of faculty development related to teaching and learning, including determining appropriate support, resources, programming and training. The Director will be responsible for continuous improvement in a vibrant and diverse range of faculty development programs to support teaching, leadership and the scholarship of teaching and learning. This role will support a university comprised of eight Colleges/Schools and 35 departments, with more than 300 full-time faculty and 600 part-time faculty.  The Director will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. 


  • Oversee the improvement of teaching and learning by providing coordination among schools and overseeing the implementation of the learning paradigm
  • Oversee faculty development support and training for innovative teaching, learning and the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Plan, develop and manage faculty initiatives that incorporate the latest research in teaching and learning that integrates the symbiosis of the teacher-scholar model
  • Design faculty events, workshops, and programs to improve teaching and learning
  • Work closely with Department Chairs and Deans to create and foster a culture of teaching excellence on campus.
  • Collaborate with Academic Technology on strategic planning regarding campus wide technology use for the enhancement of student learning.
  • Work closely with Department Chairs and Deans to develop and review standards for evaluation of faculty teaching effectiveness
  • Overseeing and promoting service/experiential learning
  • Work in close partnership with other key areas of academic affairs

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • Demonstrated significant experience in creating and developing robust faculty development programs in an institution of higher education.
  • Previous experience in academic leadership roles such as department chair or program director
  • A terminal degree in a field of professional qualification
  • Understanding of a learning paradigm teaching environment.
  • Deep experience in using advanced academic technology in the classroom.
  • Expertise in the most current thinking and application in innovative pedagogy, curriculum design and development of metrics around outcomes.
  • Top notch organizational skills, attention to detail and intellectual flexibility.
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment and creatively use resources
  • Very strong leadership, collaboration and influencing skills.
