Detailed Job Description

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of at least one region of the Mediterranean world. Period of specialization may be Ancient, Medieval, and /or Modern. Region of specialization may be Africa, Europe, Islamic World, and/or Middle East.
  • Teach introductory world history surveys and other courses in the University’s interdisciplinary general education program
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Continue productive research and scholarly activities
  • Participate in professional service activities for the department, college, and university


  • Ph.D. in history or related area required for appointment at the assistant professor level
  • Significant training and experience in target areas
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the college level and a strong commitment to student learning and development
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and potential for research
  • Ability to teach courses on more than one region of the Mediterranean world a plus

Employment conditions:
A nine-month, full-time, tenure track appointment. Option of summer employment if funds are available. If the successful candidate is ABD at the start of employment, the appointment will be a non-tenure track position as instructor. Salary dependent upon qualifications.
