Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is inviting applications for a faculty position in the Civil Engineering Department at Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology in the area of transportation engineering. Applicants at the professor, associate professor, and assistant professor level are encouraged to apply. The position is expected to begin January or August 2014.
Parks College has made a long-term commitment to a research-led profile while maintaining and enhancing our long-established excellence in engineering education and service. We offer an innovative Civil Engineering program that is future focused - incorporating the latest trends in Civil Engineering to address the current and future needs of the profession and our society. Our graduates are well prepared to enter professional practice and will have the comprehensive skill set and leadership background required to address society's needs on local, regional, and global scales. The Civil Engineering curriculum emphasizes professional practice preparation using modern, project-based, hands-on learning methods. The Civil Engineering program includes three primary focus areas: green design and sustainability engineering; infrastructure design, evaluation, and restoration; and transportation planning, analysis, and design. Beyond the Civil Engineering undergraduate program, Parks College offers a comprehensive set of undergraduate engineering degrees, and MS and PhD degrees in Engineering. The department is seeking applicants with a research and teaching emphasis in the area of transportation engineering including but not limited to: innovative and smart transportation materials; planning and traffic; highways and roads; and/or bridge and transportation structures. Transportation specialists with knowledge in aviation/transportation safety are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. Successful candidates will be expected to effectively support the department mission; develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses; mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students; conduct research; and serve the university and community. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty in other engineering programs within Parks College and with broad groups across the University is expected. Industry experience is highly desired and faculty is expected to become a registered P.E. in the State of Missouri within 3 years from the start of employment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
