Detailed Job Description

The Making Caring Common Project at the
Harvard Graduate School of Education seeks a full-time Media and Program
Director. The Making Caring Common Project (MCCP) aims to strengthen the
abilities of parents, schools, and community members to support students’
ethical, emotional, and social capacities, so that children and youth take
responsibility and have respect for others.  

The Media and Program Director will lead the work of the MCCP by developing and
managing a media strategy that supports MCCP’s strategic goals; generating,
growing, and evaluating MCCP’s media and program-related goals and activities,
building relationships with key strategic partners, managing MCCP team members,
and assisting with the development and execution of strategic plans. The Media
and Program Director reports directly to the MCCP Co-Executive Directors.

Working with MCCP’s Co-Executive Directors, the Media and Program Director

  • Lead the development and implementation of an original MCCP media campaign,
    including the generation of key media messages, and the development and
    execution of a national media strategy utilizing diverse media outlets and
    partner organizations.
  • Identify, develop and execute MCCP short and long-term organizational vision, goals,
    strategic plans, and priorities.
  • Cultivate, build and maintain relationships with partners and partner
    organizations to increase the visibility and strength of the MCCP.
  • Supervise and evaluate all MCCP media and intervention related activities.
  • Supervise MCCP staff members.
  • Manage ongoing reporting of project activity and progress, as well as the
    communication of results to larger audiences and partners. 

Please note that this position is a grant funded position one year from date of
hire with the strong possibility of continuation.

Basic Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5+ years of related
media relations and project leadership experience.  Prior experience developing
and implementing media relations campaigns.  Must have supervisory

Additional Qualifications:  Master's degree strongly preferred.  MCCP is looking for a dynamic, creative,
driven individual who:

  • Has significant experience developing and managing media campaigns, including
    knowledge of campaign development, advertising, and social media.
  • Has previous organizational leadership and/or management experience in
    generating and executing organizational strategies, goals, and priorities.
  • Has strong record of generating and maintaining partnerships with a variety
    of people and organizations.
  • Has strong public speaking, verbal and written communication skills in order
    to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Has experience managing a program budget. 
  • Is comfortable in a fast-paced, high-energy, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Is comfortable managing multiple projects and duties at once.
  • Is knowledgeable of, passionate about, and committed to the MCCP mission.
