Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Communication, to begin in Fall 2014. We seek a teacher-scholar with an expertise in integrated strategic communication with an emphasis in advertising.
Duties include teaching advertising principles, advertising research and/or developing courses in advertising, and integrated communication campaigns. This faculty member would also be expected to teach in the department's core undergraduate and graduate curricula and co-advise the student advertising club.
Requirements: Earned doctorate in Communication, Advertising, Strategic Communication or another closely related field, by August 1, 2014; documented teaching experience and excellence; an ability to build networks within the professional community; and a record or promise of published scholarly research. Additional consideration will be given to individuals who also have a record of professional experience and/or experience in design and interactive media.
Communication is a thriving department in the College of Arts and Sciences, with about 230 undergraduate majors, 40 minors, 22 M.A. students, and 21 full-time faculty members. In 2010, the department opened an 8,500-square-foot media facility and initiated a new undergraduate curriculum that stresses both the theoretical understanding and professional applications of communication. The master's program emphasizes three areas of shared interest: culture and public dialogue, media studies, and organizational communication.
