Under the direction of the director of advancement and campaign communications, the donor relations officer ensures that Saint Anselm’s donors experience high-quality interactions with the college that foster long-term engagement and investment. The donor relations officer must be both creative and disciplined to execute a broad range of responsibilities in the areas of 1) gift acceptance and management, 2) gift acknowledgment, 3) donor recognition, 4) impact reporting, and 5) donor communications. Representative responsibilities include the following:
Maintain college structures for giving opportunities, including the levels required to establish endowed funds, or to be recognized with named spaces, on donor walls or in giving societies.
Update and maintain the protocols for and execution of accurate, timely and meaningful expressions of gratitude.
Develop and implement opportunities and mechanisms for meaningful donor recognition taking into consideration such factors as donors’ preferences and college’s culture.
Report to donors on the impact of their gifts on the mission of the college in a manner that makes our benefactors glad they gave and eager to give again.
Stay abreast of best practices in development writing, including changes to style guides.
For all donor communications, use sophisticated research skills to uncover pertinent information for inclusion and ensure absolute accuracy of content through rigorous fact checking. Ensure that college style and brand is always followed.
Draft a broad range of communication collaterals for all media formats to cultivate, solicit and steward our donors (acknowledgments, appeals, award citations, donor profiles, emails, greeting cards, letters, proposals, publications, speeches.)
Exceptional writing skills as demonstrated by deep experience as a development communications writer with a proven track record of success. Samples of an acknowledgment letter, gift proposal, fundraising appeal and donor impact report will be requested. A writing test will be required.
Thorough working knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
Bachelor's degree required along with three to four years of donor relations and development writing experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Fundraising experience in a higher education setting and previous capital campaign experience preferred.
Mastery of Microsoft Office’s Word, Excel and PowerPoint software. Proficiency with Microsoft Publisher and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge preferred.
