Detailed Job Description

Quinnipiac University seeks to hire a full-time Project Coordinator for the African Diaspora Fellowship (ADF) Program. The program is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY) and involves a partnership between the Institute of International Education (IIE) and Quinnipiac University (QU), with IIE providing overall program management and logistical coordination, a seven member Advisory Board of prominent African scholars and university administrators located in North America and Africa providing strategic direction and leadership, and QU providing support through the work of Dr. Zeleza, Vice President of Academic Affairs who will chair the Board, and hosting the project coordinator.

Over the next two years the ADF program will support approximately 100 fellowships for short-term faculty exchange by African Diaspora scholars to higher education institutions in CCNY partner-countries in Africa. 


The Project Coordinator will serve as the central “information hub” of the project between QU, the Advisory Board and, the IIE, coordinating communications with IIE for internal and external stakeholders and participants and maintaining data files for purposes of expense monitoring, compliance, and evaluation activities.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the Chair’s activities and three Advisory Board meetings per year, including travel and lodging for Board members.
  • Preparing and executing Board meetings and managing subsequent follow up activities.
  • Coordinating on behalf of the Board with IIE on all initiatives and grant activities for the project.
  • Working with QU to monitor project budgets and manage project deadlines.
  • Assisting the Board with the writing of necessary reports and relevant proposals.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or requested by the Chair and the Board.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • The Project Coordinator will be a high caliber individual knowledgeable about issues in international education, African higher education in general, African studies, and Africa Diaspora studies in particular.
  • The Coordinator will be a skilled administrator with research skills and ability to work in a complex national and transnational scholarly environment central to the project. 
  • The Coordinator will have exceptional communication, negotiating, diplomacy, and conceptual skills, and will be able to articulate the needs of the project efficiently and maintain a cooperative working relationship with and among IIE, the Advisory Board, and QU as well as the stakeholders. 
  • A minimum of an advanced degree in a relevant field to this work, and demonstrated experience managing transnational projects and grant funding is required.
