Job Responsibilities

• Manages the daily functions of the Campus Office of Student Financial Aid Office to include all support staff in the financial aid unit

• Manages financial aid advising functions, including office scheduling, staffing rotations, master scheduler for student appointments, and assigned workshops to ensure efficient and effective office staff support

• Supervises daily financial aid program oversight to ensure members of the Student Financial Aid & Scholarships team comply with financial aid regulations and financial aid audit compliance

• Oversees public benefits and community resources initiatives provided by Student Financial Aid Advisors and Peer Financial Coaches for the Project Go program

• Serves as a Benefits Coach for the Project Go program and assists students in completion of the application for public benefits

• Provides leadership to peers for on-going training on financial aid procedures and systems

• Serves as trainer for SFA Advisors, EC Representatives, Peer Financial Coaches, Interns, and other campus constituency groups

• Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work performance and learning development for Peer Financial Coaches and Interns

• Interprets and accurately applies federal, state, and institutional rules, regulations, and policies, which result in making independent judgments that carry substantial fiscal consequences for students and for the institution.

• May serve as Acting in Charge, when supervisor is not available.

• Participates in the training and development of enrollment center representatives

• Ensures efficient processing of federal and state financial aid programs through effective planning and assessing student services, such as in-person and online services

• Develops and initiates programs to evaluate, monitor, and improve the effectiveness of financial
aid services provided to students; including, but not limited to staff scheduling, staff training, and service area functionality

• Researches, gathers materials and data, prepares updates, and routine reports

• Prepares files for college-wide compliance audits.

• Collaborates with campus specific and college-wide work groups to ensure records maintenance and fiscal controls for federal financial aid compliance

• Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Five (5) years of direct, progressive financial aid experience
• Three (3) years direct supervision, training, and evaluation of support staff
• Demonstrated experience with automated student information systems

• Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and organizational, customer service, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Skills in keyboarding, basic math, and basic grammar, basic level word processing (MS Word) and basic level spreadsheet applications (MS Excel)
• Proven ability to work with limited supervision and exercise independence and initiative in determining how work is performed and the appropriate actions to be taken
• Ability to work in a high volume with handling multiple assignments and adhering to time-sensitive deadlines
• Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, integrity and confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining harmonious work relationships
• Ability to understand complex circumstances and explain implications to students in relation to student aid programs
• Demonstrated ability to prepare correspondence, general communications, presentations and reports
• Strong analytical, organizational, customer service, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
• Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Student Personnel or related field
• Demonstrated experience with BANNER
• Financial Literacy/Education Certification
• Certified Financial Education/Personal Finance

• Skills in interpreting and applying rules and regulations to a variety of individual student situations and circumstances
• Ability to understand how automated financial aid systems affect individual student records

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of business 8:30AM – 5PM, Monday through Friday.
Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required based on business unit need.

Special Note

There are a total of three (3) openings for the Manager, Student Financial aid position. One Manager will be designated to one of the three campus locations: Metropolitan, Western, and Eastern.
