Detailed Job Description

The Video Producer/Editor oversees all aspects of video production and editing for the university marketing office. The position develops original and innovative videos from concept to completion to support the branding direction and consistency of video messaging as it relates to the University of La Verne and the departments/offices it supports.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing Communications in the Office of University Marketing & Publications, the Video Producer/Editor will:

a) have primary responsibility for conceiving, writing, directing and producing multimedia content for the College’s website, third party websites (YouTube, Vimeo, iTunes, etc.), and other communication platforms using existing and emerging technologies;
b) write, shoot and edit feature stories, short video series, and short-form segments with high quality standards for music, sound, color and story narrative;
c) identify messaging priorities in collaboration with key leadership teams across the College and communicate them to the appropriate staff;
d) assist in planning for and implementing the video communications strategy of the university colleges/departments/offices it supports.

Specific Duties

Planning and Development:
a) Meet with clients to identify purpose and intended impact of video projects.
b) Plan all aspects of a video project.
c) Work closely with University Marketing staff and a variety of campus personnel in coordinating and creating content.
d) Interact with all levels of University administration, faculty and staff including the president, deans and department heads.

Pre-Production, Production & Post-Production:
a) Create stories that advance positive awareness of University of La Verne and its brand.
b) Shoot, edit, research, produce, interview subjects, write and direct multi-purpose content for web videos, social media, and other communication venues.
c) Test and monitor all video, lighting and sound equipment to ensure proper function and make suggestions for potential improvements when applicable.
d) Repackage program content to create potential radio, TV and/or web content for broad dissemination.
e) Identify and obtain any necessary resources pertinent to a video.
f) Oversee or personally handle all aspects of video production, including planning, pre-production, production, post-production, editing, and audio recording and production.
g) Create schedules and ensure that deadlines are met.
h) Set up equipment and technologies onsite, including video cameras, large viewing screens, projectors, and sound systems.

Additional Responsibilities:
a) Liaise between clients and video production crew to ensure that all parties understand the requirements and expectations.
b) Support or assist in live video production events.
c) Manufacture and distribute copies if requested by a client.
d) Provide oversight/mentoring of student employees/interns.
e) Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:
The following are the minimum requirements to be considered for this position:

a) highly skilled in videography with the ability to perform all aspects of digital video production, including utilizing video recording devices (e.g. DSLR, handicams, high- and standard-definition) and software (e.g. Adobe CS 6/Premiere Production Suite, Magic Bullet and PluralEyes);
b) demonstrated understanding of visual storytelling, shooting, editing and writing.
c) strong photography skills with the ability to use DSLR cameras;
d) ability to make technical decisions regarding elements such as appropriate lighting, shooting angles, type of equipment, and placement of microphones;
e) familiarity with social media, You Tube, iTunes, Vimeo, etc.
f) strong organizational and time-management skills to manage and successfully complete multiple projects simultaneously, under tight deadlines and under pressure;
g) possess integrity, vision, good judgment, and diplomacy;
h) ability to safely walk, bend, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, climb ladders up to twenty feet with assistance and ten feet unassisted, stand for prolonged periods of time, and lift fifty pounds from the ground to waist level unassisted;
i) work some evenings and weekends as needed;
j) capability to drive to off-campus venues in the local area as needed and possible international travel.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in video/film production and/or editing or a closely related field, or the equivalent in training and experience. Three to five years experience in broadcasting, advertising, and/or related video/media fields, including educational or cause-related marketing. Studio lighting and/or narrative photography is desirable.
