Instructor – Communication Generalist

The Department of Communication at Southern Oregon University seeks applicants for a professional-track 1.0 FTE hire in the discipline of communication studies. We are seeking a generalist instructor to teach interpersonal communication, public speaking, small group communication, intercultural communication/media, and/or introductory media studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate skills in teaching online, and will commit to teaching courses at our Higher Education Center facility in Medford, including evening classes.

Professional track faculty teach a 4-4-3 course load and conduct academic advising, serve on committees, and remain current in their field, but do not carry an expectation of scholarly publication. This is a non-tenure track, three-year appointment, with the possibility of the contract to be renewed indefinitely after a probationary period, and the option to eventually apply for Senior Instructor status. Candidates are required to possess a Master's Degree in Communication or related field (ABD or Ph.D. preferred), and must demonstrate evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence, strong interpersonal skills, and experience with/ability to interact with a diverse population. Teaching assignments may include University Seminar, online courses, Medford and Ashland campus classes, and day, evening, and weekend courses.
