The Assistant Dean leads the Student Career Support and Employer Relations department and serves all undergraduate, graduate, CAPA, Regional Campus students and alumni. The Assistant Dean facilitates the development and implementation of the department vision and supervises all associated activities. The Assistant Dean oversees the supervision and management of all personnel and fiscal matters. The Assistant Dean will strategically cultivate and strengthen corporate relations with and between employers, students, alumni and faculty to maximize student employment in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan. The goals of the position are to increase job posting, recruitment, and hiring activity for the University’s students and graduates.
Overview of Position (which includes, but is not limited to the following description of specific duties:
Develop and implement a vision and strategic plan for the Student Career Support and Employer Relations department. Supervise personnel,manage budget, assess/evaluate career services, programs and services. Direct/monitor the department’s Admin
Review. Identify/cultivate relationships with organizations and business sectors for the benefit of our students. Work with employers to develop marketing strategies, enhance employer presence on campus, evaluate appropriateness of employer expectations; assist with diversity recruitment; promote adherence to office procedures and deadlines, review interviewing protocols and offer/accept lead times, and sustain/maintain the highest ethical and professional conduct. Actively pursue college relations/recruiter contacts, and hiring sources for students and alumni. Research and stay informed in national, state and local hiring practices, employment trends and other labor related issues and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates. Collaborate with Director of Alumni Relations regarding Alumni mentoring programs, employer relationships, speakers, and outreach activities.Organize and set the annual recruiting calendar, including all deadlines/processes. Schedule dates for employer information sessions, interviews, and fairs. Participate in career development programs coordinated by the dept. Collaborate with the Director of Student Career Support in preparing and managing the department budget to meet the needs of both factions of the Department. Seek to generate monetary support, sponsorships, and gifts-in-kind from the private sector to support the goals and objectives of the department. Coordinate internships including development of internship sites and coordination of the internship placement process. Research and stay informed in national, state and local hiring practices, employment trends and other labor related issues and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates. Advise chief officers of the institution as to trends, strategies and developments that impact the University.
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or other related fields.
3-5 years of direct experience with career services
3-5 years of direct experience with employer relations and recruitment
Knowledgeable about and awareness of diversity, inclusivity and multicultural issues.
Knowledge of relevant legal and ethical requirements for student career support and employer relations. The Assistant Dean is a critical member of the University community. The Assistant Dean must have the ability to initiate, establish and foster communications and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative and productive work atmosphere inside and outside the University community and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
The hiring range for this position is dependent upon qualifications and departmental equity.
