The Department of Animal Sciences, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN invites applications for a Ph.D. Grand Challenge Assistantship in Animal Efficiency. Recipients must be admitted to Purdue as a Ph.D.-track student in Animal Sciences with an admit date of Fall 2014. The successful candidate will coordinate activities that facilitate both internal and external communication. These activities could include: press releases, fact sheets, inter-lab gatherings, symposia highlighting research areas, graduate student career tours, and/or communication with stakeholders. Selection of the recipient is conducted by the Animal Sciences Graduate Committee and considers the students’ academic and scholarly achievements and abilities and the ability to contribute to the communication and coordination of the department’s research efforts in Animal Efficiency. To receive full consideration, graduate students must submit completed Graduate School admission application materials, including a 1-page Grand Challenge essay outlining your vision for Animal Sciences in Animal Efficiency, describing the proposed research area they would accomplish at Purdue and how this research furthers progress in Animal Efficiency. The Animal Science Department will provide a stipend of $18,763, payment of tuition and most fees (differential fee is not paid) and medical insurance supplement. Continuation of the assistantship is contingent upon satisfactory academic and scholarly performance and progress, satisfactory work performancem and the fellow's ability to meet and maintain Animal Science graduate student guidelines.
